I think he thought well of himself. But I avoid fusing his life with his fiction. Maigret, for example, seems confident but humble. Good combination!
Simenon seems like he was an interesting character. It also sounds like he was worth reading. Maybe I will give him a try.
I recommend anything by Simenon, but I’m partial to the Maigret novels.
